Hi there, (great site!), I have two cattle dog puppies, both about 15 weeks old...we live on acreage and my partner and I work during the day so they just play with eachother all day. I have taken them to an off-leash dog park twice now, and on Monday they went pretty alright, but today I left almost in tears. The 2 of them were a bit snappy at the other dogs....they didn't bite anyone, but they seemed a bit aggressive...however i'm not great at determining the difference between dog play and aggressiveness.
hi,
i've been working awhile with filou to help him become more calm around strangers and dogs using mainly desensitization and redirection, as well as nilif at home and continuing general obedience. he has made great progress on walks as long as the people are quiet and the dogs are well-controlled. we walk in a public area(woodland path) where dogs technically should be leashed.
Hi, I am new to blogging on the 'zine, although I have been a reader for some time. My question pertains to my 16-month-old rescue pup, Gizmo, whom I obtained through the local shelter last December. He was listed as an "owner release", supposedly because the owners were moving to a place where they could not have pets, but given some of his proclivities I am beginning to wonder.

I might be having a new problem with Luna. She is usually a very relaxed and calm dog. I was always so "proud" in the fact that she doesn't have the "pit character" that people talk badly of.

I am looking for help because my (usually well behaved with all people and kids) dog did something out of character today. Snow is new to him, but we were outside playing in the snow and there was a family right next to us and the kids were sledding down the hill. Well Inuki (my german shepherd/whippet mix) charged at the sledders and barked then ran away.
Question about a beagle/bassidhound mix. Two years old, obedience trained using positive clicker training. She displayed no aggressive behaviors during classes.Often I redirected her behavior before it advanced into unwanted behavior. Now she is aggressive and pertective over anything she considers hers. She has even bitten when people try to take the item from her. Can you help with suggestions before she becomes homeless?
Hi there,
My husband and I have recently bought a place on 5 acres and my husbands dog Lochie will be coming to live with us fulltime very soon(Currently he still lives with my husbands kids).
There are 6 neighbouring sheep that come across to our land to keep the grass down.

Thanks to your advice, Adian, Inuki has been doing much better, and he is much more social with other dogs in general, especially since he is going to doggy daycare a few times a week! One thing, however, has gotten worse.....his obsession with tennis balls at the dog park!
Hi Aidan,
No question this time, just a blog. I just found out from the owner that filou has been growling and snapping at strangers. i don't know how long it's been going on, but between that and the resource guarding, i'm feeling sad. I feel like we both have failed in responsably raising him. He had virtually no socializing, it was so sporadic and even tho we have trainer to work with now, it seems like closing the door after the horse is gone.
Hi Aidan,
I know you have an article you recommend on this topic, but I can't seem to find it.
It started with a treasure he found on a walk-was able to trade for squeaky ball-but it was the first time he growled at me.
Today he did the same with a turkey neck - this was a new treat for him, he didn't have a problem with beef bones. I was able to trade him for a handful of boiled liver bits.
