Learning Name and whinning when out of site

I have a Australia Kelpie called Dash who is now 7 weeks old. I have had her for a week.
I understand it is only early days however I have found even though having learnt the sit command and almost having the come command she still does not respond to her name. Is there any particular training methods or things I could do to help her to learn her name?

My puppy plays tug of war with my leg on walks

sophiesmom's picture

I have a 7 month old lab puppy who we recently added to our home. She was rarely walked on a leash before coming to us a month ago. At certain parts of the walks (usually in the same places) she tugs at my pants and sleeve. The tugging is so hard that she has ripped clothing and I have several bruises on my arms and legs. I did some research and shortened our walks, changed routes as best as we can and have given her something to put in her mouth other than me and daughter. All of these things seem to help reduce the tugging but we still have times where nothing will work.

Teaching show dogs the positive way

My journey into positive training began over 13 years ago when I discovered Clicker training with Wilbur, a 3 year old rescued Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Food guarding around small dogs and cats

Hello!

Agression isses NOT FEAR related.

HI - been reading quite a lot about dog aggression and clicker training (click to calm and other vido) . My dog is very confident. When he is aggressive his mouth corners are pushed forward not back in a fear grimace. I am working with a trainer. She and previous trainers agree Jake is a very confident dog and at most times loving and energetic.

Is clicker training effective if aggression is not fear based?

Thanks is advance for advice and help.

Pack leader - when and why does it change?

Hello- My dog recognizes me as the pack leader, however, every time my sister visits from out of state, he changes his behavior and treats her as the pack leader. He becomes her shadow, follows her around and is at her side constantly. I have been consistent, calm and firm in my treatment and approach. Although I enjoy watching him and seeing the two forming a strong bond, I am curious as to why. Any thoughts?

Jumping up on furniture

We don't want Samantha Jan jumping up on our furniture. How can I stop this behaviour. I have put my hand gentle on her face and told her no, but that doesn't work.

House Training

Last week Samantha Jan was doing very well taking herself outside through the cat door to do a poo she was rewarded when this happened but now she is doing it in the house again and taking herself out to do a wee. Any idea as to what to do about this turn of events.

Crying at night

Have just got a black lab, Samantha Jan, who will be 8 weeks tomorrow. She cries at night and is driving me to distraction. As we have a neighbour upstairs & am mindful that I don't want to wake her up I go to Samantha & tell her to keep quiet. When Samantha goes to bed she has a hot water bottle, toys and a clock ticking. Any suggestions on what else I can do to stop her crying.

Evidence of 9,400-year-old tamed dog found by graduate pupil

Ancient humans left behind hints that they kept domestic dogs 9,400 years ago, recent research conducted by a graduate student has discovered. Companionship was not the purpose of the 9,400-year-old canine, however. Evidence of the canine was found within the form of a bone shard contained in a fossilized human turd.
