Half Check Chains

I'm a great believer in positive reinforcement and it is the only training I teach. Obviously very against the use of choke chains, where I work choke chains are not allowed but half checks are. I was wondering what other people's opinions of these are? I am against them too as they are still a corrective mechanism. Recently I've found that a fellow trainer, who also practices +ve reinforcement has her dog wearing a half check! Plus a friend who also practises it has her dog in one. As far as I'm concerned positive reinforcement and half checks conflict, what does everyone else think?

My 4 yr old dog is getting a bit stressed. She had 4 previous "owners" before I got her at 11 weeks old but soon settled with me and my other puppy fine but always a little anxious but no problems when I go out. Her anxiety increased when at a yr old her sister was in hospital for 2 weeks. Although even then it was not bad. She has always been my little shadow and is a bit nervous aggressive around other dogs she does not know but is fine if given space.
