new puppy training.

I just got my toy poodle, pumpkin. She is 7 weeks old. I have heard that crate training is the best way to get her house trained. And we are trying to switch her from canned food to dry food however we dont know the best way to do that. Does anyone have some advice??

pup reluctant to walk

Hi,
Here's the nanny for the 7 month old doxie. Just this past week he's become very reluctant to go for walks again. He had this issue as a younger pup and it took some time to build up his confidence. Learning loose leash wallking seemed to work well for him.
I usually had been taking several walks a day, some 30 minutes, some 15, depending on the temp. (it's US very hot now). But this week he has not wanted to go. Doxie stubborness, teenage moodiness? Early in the week he acted like he'd never touched a blade of grass in in life, fortunately that stopped.

1 meal

Hi Folks, macey has gone from eating breakfast(wheat bix and milk or toast with vegiemite) and her afternoon meal (kibble, meat and gravey or chicken ,rice and string vegies) to only eating her afternoon meal and shows no interest in breaky. She only empties once a day also.... from two big ones in the morning to one in the evening... she doesn't go hunting for food during the day and she will eat a 4 by 2 biscuit at lunch time... she gets no tidbits during the day and drinks about 1.5 L of water a day... Aidan , could it be tht she has settled down with her diet and the body is using everything it gets???.... she's 10.5 mths old and very active during the day... should i be concerned??/

When to spay or neuter your dog?

I would appreciate your thougths and/or comments..

My husband and I have two puppies, one female Lab (Becky) almost 7 months old, and one male Lab mix (Ben) 5 months old. We are planning to have them both spayed and neutered, but we're a bit confused on WHEN is the best time to do this. Our vet recommends to get Becky spayed as early as possible, before she reaches her sexual maturity. But the dog trainer recommends to wait until three months after Becky's first heat cycle, or right between first and second heat cycle, when her hormones are at the lowest. As for Ben, both recommend to wait until he is after 6 months old. As of today, Becky hasn't had her first cycle and Ben hasn't sprayed on anything yet - he still pees with both hind legs down.

Protect Your Dog From the Deadly Parvovirus

Spring is fading gradually into summer, and a lot of us love to spend time outdoors with our dogs. This means exposure to illness, but the most dreaded for dog owners is parvovirus. it strikes hard and kills fast-usually within two to three days of dogs showing symptoms. But there's a lot of conflicting information on the web: some say it's airborne, some say it's only through feces. Some say it can stay in the environment for 6 months, others a year, some say indoors it will survive for only a month. Some say humans can be affected to some degree, others say not at all.

Since there are many facets of this disease in which varying experts have had varied experience, the best way to handle this disease is by prevention.

The Pet Food Recall -- What You Should Know (And Do)

You’ve probably heard about the pet food recall. But unless you’ve been actively seeking out more information, you may not realize just how extensive the problem with our pets’ food supply is, and that it’s far from over.

I’ve been following the pet food recall news closely, through two websites that have been doing a stellar job digging up information and reporting it quickly and clearly, with updates as soon as anything new is known:

http://petconnection.com and http://itchmo.com

I've also signed up for Itchmo's Pet Safety Alerts Email List: http://www.itchmo.com/itchmos-pet-safety-alert-email-list/ ... and it seems that every day I get a new Alert about additional foods recalled or further information revealed as to the depth and scope of the problem.
