5 Month Old Yorkie Pooh

Hi Everyone!
Boy do I need some help with Lucy. She doesn't tell us when she has got to go potty. She pees and poopies in the house. When we try to pick her up to take her to her poop box she runs away from us; Lucy thinks it's all a game. (Ha Ha try to catch me to go P!). It's quite a work out just trying to catch her.
Lucy loves to play, but she will bark and bark until we play with her. She loves to play fetch. Any ideas with Lucy she is such a handful and she still likes to nip when she is playing.

Thank you all.

Housetraining

Hi Katie, for house-training help I set up a Yahoo Group called doghousebreaking. When you join you are sent some files which contain detailed instructions for house-training.

Basically, do not expect signs or signals that she needs to go.

Make a point of never playing with her when she is barking at you. At first she will bark more, then more, then less, then probably more than ever again, then she will stop - but ONLY if you never, ever play with her when she is barking again. If you do play with her while she is barking, you will make it doubly as hard to get rid of the barking this way.

It is helpful to teach her to do something else, almost anything else, so long as it is silent. I would suggest "sit". When she barks, wait until she pauses for a moment or two, then ask her to "sit" - THEN play with her as the reward.

Don't use your "sit" cue in this situation until you have trained it to some level of reliability first.

Nipping is covered in my book or e-book, The Positive Petzine Collection. You might also find my article "Ouch! My Puppy is Nipping My Hands and Clothes" on the web if you Google it, it was published on-line about 500 times that I know of.

Aidan
