Amichien Bonding & Jan Fennell

Is anyone familiar with Jan Fennell and Amichien Bonding? I have an opportunity to go to a seminar about this type of interaction with dogs but am not sure if it's really going to be worthwhile. I'm getting good results with clicker training although still have a few things to work on :-)

Always worth learning something new...

Hi Fay, I'll be upfront with everyone reading this - I am yet to be convinced by Jan Fennell. I saw some episodes of her show and was unimpressed with the lack of specific results and the way she claimed them as if something had actually happened (almost every celebrity dog trainer does this, she's not alone).

It's pretty easy to come up with a bunch of "success stories" and put them in a book (or even on TV), so that doesn't convince me either (and yes, I have read her book).

All that aside, if you have the time and the money, go and learn something new. There's always SOMETHING to be gained from a new learning experience. Just don't get sucked in by the hype. What you are doing (clicker training) is working and you're only just beginning - you will get better at it. What's more - you are enjoying it. I've seen a lot of people get a lot of value out of learning how to use clicker training.

I think Amichien Bonding can make a difference where the owner exhibits certain behavioral deficits that can cause problems for the dog, but it's not some flash of divinity or a cure-all. Jan Fennell's approach is fairly compatible with what you're already doing and the two can be used hand in hand if you see anything from her bag of tricks which you think you can use.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, Aidan. I think I'll save myself the $50 and carry on doing what I'm doing :-)
