I have a six month old red nose pit/rottweiler mix named zero. She was fixed two weeks ago and microchipped, and about 2 months ago we brought home a kitten, named bullet... We also have an older collie named aris, and an older cat named scooter.
Zero and aris are fed in the kitchen while the cats are fed in the computer room (which is right next to the kitchen)
My older cat scooter is not very tolerable to the other animals, if they get to close he lets them know with bite attempts, growls, swipes with his paw(he is declawed) and the other animals mainly shrug it off seeing as how he isnt always mean to them, sometimes they get along. Lets get down to the real issue, zero guards her food against the animals in the house. She has growled on several occasions and we are attempting to correct her by saying NO when she does this, but the cats just walk away and enforce it. She will not growl or be aggressive towards myself or my girlfriend though. Last night while she was in her kennel for the night scooter came in to the room and came by the kennel, zero was growling more aggressively. I ignored the first growl bc i figured she was dreaming, but on the second one i get up and scooter is sitting there staring at her and she was still growling at him, I turned the light on she looks at me and her tails wagging so I tell her ZERO NO. lights off. she slept for the rest of the night. I am wondering if this is some sort of torture game between the dog and the cat or if we have a real problem going on, the kennel thing last night is a new thing thats the first time its happened. I would like to nip this before someone gets nipped. The only reason she is put in her kennel is when we are working during the day,or sleeping at night. and most of the time she is only in there for a few hours difference and she gets plenty of run time and quality dog beach time.
