Golden puppy
I am planning to adopt a golden retriever puupy in few months time. I started to think about where he should stay at night. Ideally, I would like him to stay in his outdoor dog house (in the garden) at night - we are in a quiet area, no neighbours and well fenced garden.
However, I am not sure when I should introduce the puppy to his outdoor house? I do not think it will do any good for the puppy to let him stay whole night outside in the first few days (even weeks). He would probably quite nervous when he first arrive to his new home . Any suggestions and recommendations are welcome.
Thank you!

re: Golden puppy
Hi Phoebe, I always recommend that a young pup sleeps in a crate in the owner's bedroom. You then set your alarm for 2:00am and take pup out to toilet. Each night, set the alarm 5 minutes later until pup is sleeping through.
A young pup has just come from his mother and littermates into a new environment with new people. He needs to feel as safe and secure as possible during this transition. You want him to be independent and able to cope with separation later, but one step at a time. Don't start at the deep end.
My older Goldie prefers to sleep outside during the summer, but generally both my dogs sleep indoors. They are safe there, and we prefer the extra security they afford us. They don't wake us barking at noises either, which they do sometimes if they sleep outside. Another way of looking at it is that the pack should rest together.

Aidan
