Puppy Run away
Hi, its Hedy and Christy again....
I am looking for training steps to keep Hedy still when I go to pick her up. She is small, 6.5 pounds and about 6.5 inches high. I am six feet so it is a long way down. When I get down there, I don't like getting back up again without her in my arms. She loves to do the old "puppy chase me" routine each time I try to pick her up. She is very playful by nature and energy, so the way I can get her, if I need to take her somewhere, is to call her up on the couch and then corner her. Play with me seems to be her major agenda of the day.. in everything. I do love it, but want to establish the difference between this is play, chase time and this is I need you to stay put so I can pick you up. Any suggestions... clicker ones are most desired.
Thanks
Christy and Hedy

re: Puppy Run away
Hi Christy, easier than it sounds. Teach Hedy to target your hand. Get that behaviour quite strong first, then once it's all good, simply pick her up with your other hand.
If she doesn't mind being picked up, that's about it. If she dislikes being picked up, see if you can figure out the steps from my reply to your last question.

Aiden,
I laughed so hard at your answer I had to tell you! What a concept.. pick her up with the other hand...Duh!
I am still laughing. She does target... well, fairly well...we will report our progress..
thanks for making my day

The simplest solution is often the best! (And usually the most overlooked)
