Puppies

A couple of puppy related questions:

* Would you "say" approx 15-20 mins of exercise (be it done by themselves or with me thru walking or playing chase in the yard etc) every 2-3 hours is enough or even every 3-4 hours ? Is there a good general "rule of thumb" exercise requirement for puppies ?

* Pee pad training - right now I'm rewarding the puppies whenever they use the pee pad. This can be via affection or food treats. How can I go about training them to NOT pee anywhere else in the house ? I'm learning the signs to look out for before one decides to pee ... and usually it is in the same spot as previous times.... however how should I 'react' thus allowing the dog to learn it is meant to use the pee pads ? At the moment, I'm not reacting at all except to instantly get up, get the disinfectant (vinegar or whatever is on hand), paper towels and wipe it up.

Thanks !

Hi gcpets, I'm really not much of a puppy expert but just be careful to let pups rest and play when they want to, rather than trying to stick to too much of a schedule.

Are you using pee pads because you live in an apartment? I don't recommend them unless absolutely necessary. They definitely do cause house-training problems. Your approach is about as good as it can be, though, so keep that up. I do interrupt pups who are having an accident, clap of the hands or something mild, just enough to hopefully stop them then I "shuffle them off" to where they are supposed to go.

I love the puppy

I think all people do love the pet animals and I too love them. I think you should hire a puppy trainer to your home. If your puppy is doing biting, scratching, barking, rough housing, you will immediately hire a puppy trainer for your puppy. I think you will give the puppy training to your puppy because training is an essential thing for all dogs and all puppies. I've one puppy at my home and I had hired a puppy trainer in order to improve my puppy behavior. Definitely my puppy is becoming perfect.
