Mud Bud & King(er dinger)
Posted May 8th, 2009 by animal motelSo when I am trying to work with mud bud, king always gets in my way (jealousy). What do I do to get him out of the way other than tie him because I feel that will cause more problems. They both sit and one lays down but only when yelled at. I can not even play catch with mud without king interviening, and king does not even like catch. I would love to use all my retriever qualities in a positive manner but I can not get the other dog to leave us alone. Hoe do I train my dogs to listen and do tricks is there any speical key to this.
Training 10-15 minutes, three times a day

teaching puppy to wave, eliminating food lure
Posted August 26th, 2007 by dogwalkerartistHello,
I've gotten to Filou to lift his left paw pretty high, using a food lure, and started say "wave" at the clicking moment. Will continuing to practice that help me eliminate the treat? Would add a hand signal be too confusing? I'm still pretty new at this, so bear with me.
I've tried to introduce a target stick (wooden) and he chews it. Could a target stick be used instead of a food lure for a behavior like that?
Many thanks-Jen
Paying Attention - A Training Exercise for Puppies and Dogs

Does your dog know how to pay attention to you? Here is a simple training exercise you can use this week to teach your dog how to pay attention to you in all situations. By the end of the week, your puppy or dog will be paying more attention to you - guaranteed!
We're going to use the principle of Positive Reinforcement to teach this behavior, through a simplified process known by animal trainers and behaviorists as 'Shaping'.
Shaping is when we 'shape' a behavior like a piece of clay. We start off with something simple and mold it into something we can use. It's not difficult to do using positive reinforcement, but we need to be able to relax a little and trust the process.
