House Training

What is a crate?

Hello, I have recently become a proud owner of Piper, a Maltese x Shih Tzu. She is 7 weeks old. I am currently toilet training her both inside & out, but of course inside is becoming a struggle, puppy mats don't seem to be working. As I am new to all this puppy hype, I'm keen to know what exactly is a crate and and it's benefits? Where can I purchase one?

Query in House training a Lab

I brought a puppy (mix of Labrador and Stray) when ishe was 40 days old. She in no time or without any of my efforts started understanding the use of Papers we laid on the floor and started using it for peeing and pooping. I later understood that only the paper was not the symbol which she had got used to, it was the area as well. So if we have not laid the paper for any reason, she wouild go and pee there on the floor happily. After sometime when I thought she has grown bigger and the odour of her elimination became unbearable, I tried training her in "toileting in the Tolilet".

House training Chihuahua

I have two Chihuahua's that will sometimes pee on their paper andy other times everywhere else including chairs and beds. We have tried giving them treats when they go on paper but nothing seems to work. We are at the end of our ropes with this situation. One of the dogs is 8 months and the other is 4-5 months old. They are both female the older one is been fixed. They seem to be very smart but this is a bad issue with them

new puppy training.

I just got my toy poodle, pumpkin. She is 7 weeks old. I have heard that crate training is the best way to get her house trained. And we are trying to switch her from canned food to dry food however we dont know the best way to do that. Does anyone have some advice??

5 Month Old Yorkie Pooh

Hi Everyone!
Boy do I need some help with Lucy. She doesn't tell us when she has got to go potty. She pees and poopies in the house. When we try to pick her up to take her to her poop box she runs away from us; Lucy thinks it's all a game. (Ha Ha try to catch me to go P!). It's quite a work out just trying to catch her.
Lucy loves to play, but she will bark and bark until we play with her. She loves to play fetch. Any ideas with Lucy she is such a handful and she still likes to nip when she is playing.

Thank you all.

false alarm update

Hi,
Since I last wrote, Filou's behavior has changed some. Yesterday after asking to go out 3 times, an hour apart(and peeing little bits) I took the bells away. I decided I would take him out 3 hours after the last potty. About 2 hours later he peed on the rug, right in front of me, right next to his bed and toys.
So I figure it's medical, territory marking(tho he has never lifted his leg), or anxiety. There is a stray dog who's been marking up the backyard. I think he is intact, and is a big shepherd mix.

False alarms

Hi,
Filou finally made the connection to ringing the bell to ask to go outside. He's quite reliable, however, he will also ring the bell when he doesnt need to potty but just wants to sniff around or bark at something.
Currently I'm honoring each request, but if he doesn't produce in 2 minutes, he goes back in for a 5 minute time out in the crate.

So Tired!!!!!

I have a little 2 month old Synoodle/Shitzu, We brought her home from a shelter when she was 5 wks old. We have been working with her non stop ever since. We have tried to put her on a eating/potty schedule. We get up in the night to take her out. She knows if she wimpers, we will take her outside. we give her treats and praise when she does her business. She has been pooing sometimes in her crate and sometimes right after she pooed outside. she will come inside and do it again before I get her in her crate.
